Handy Bits: Silky PocketBoy Saw Review

I love this little thing- it stays with me and gets put to work daily on the trail! I just bought its first replacement blade this week after 3 years of abuse, and it really made me appreciate it even more. It is the Silky Pocket Boy 170mm Medium Teeth folding saw.

This folding saw fits perfectly in the side pocket of both my Carhartt and Patagonia overalls, so its always there when I need it. It’s lightweight, small, and easy to use for smaller limbs and roots. The medium teeth cut deep without getting hung up easily, and the grippy handle feels good and secure unlike so many of the cheaper saws out there. I stopped using loppers altogether when I started carrying this little guy. As an added bonus, It lives in my door panel or riding pack as a “just in case” kind of tool when I’m not on a build. I feel confident that I could defend myself with it if need be, and it raises far less questions than any kind of knife or other weapon! Pro Tip: a can of bear spray and one of these saws are way easier to travel with than any kind of other self defense equipment, and both are effective, easy to carry, and multi-purpose!

The original blade and the first replacement after 3 years of abuse!

This saw lives on my hip, and is small enough to stay put in that little side pocket. Super handy.
